Scenic Prop and Design of Fraser, formerly Scenic Design — a company making props for film, TV and other venues within the entertainment industry — plans to hire 200-300 people over the next 12 to 18 months.

“We are currently targeting workers who have a skill set who can be re-trained. Men and women like laid off auto workers, carpenters and electricians or folks within those industries who simply want to expand their careers,” said Mort Meisner of Huntington Woods, one of Scenic Props’ four partners. The other partners are Jack Grushko of Bloomfield Hills, Kim Haveraneck of Bloomfield Hills and Jonathan Krueger of Warren. Meisner, Grushko and Haveraneck also own the parent company, the Center For Film Studies of Madison Heights.

They also plan to relocate Scenic Prop and Design to Oakland or Wayne County, near a studio.

The company has been around for seven years and has produced props for rock groups including Black Sabbath and TV shows such as Extreme Makeover and Crash Course.

The process of making these props is proprietary and very few know how to do it.

That’s why most potential employees will need to take classes offered by Center For Film Studies and taught by Jonathan Krueger, the founder of Scenic Design and co-owner of Scenic Prop and Design.

Job seekers should visit centerforfilmstudies.com or call 248-545-2648 to find out the most efficient way they can receive training.

“Currently, the majority of props are trucked in from Los Angeles at high prices. Once Scenic Prop and Design gets into full swing, the props will be made here and hundreds of jobs will potentially be gained,” said Meisner.
